In The Next 100 Days
With just over 100 days left in 2011 – many of you reading this blog, myself included, have goals you have not yet reached and projects you have not yet finished. You have words you have not spoken, trails you have not blazed, and paths you have not yet crossed. Today, as you read this – I want you to ask yourself one simple question…
“Why?”
Why haven’t you reached your goals for 2011? Why have you not finished those projects? Why haven’t you spoken your mind and expressed yourself? Why have you left paths and trails leading to greater things untouched by the soles of your feet? Why have you not shown the world how great you are?
Perhaps you’ve had other obligations standing in your way. Maybe you’ve faced obstacles and challenges that have been larger than expected. Perhaps your confidence has been shaken by the negativity of another. A nagging voice in the back of your mind telling you that you can’t.
What ever your reason for not accomplishing all you wanted for your year 2011 yet, I want you to take this opportunity, take these last 100 days – and make it happen. Understand, and truly believe that in these next 100 days you can change your life. You can turn your present failure into a roaring success. You can accomplish your goals, and see your projects completed. And you can do it before the end of the year.
A few days ago I spent a great deal of time helping some very good friends move into their new home. These friends happen to have a lot of heavy furniture. So naturally at the end of the day – I was tired. My muscles ached, and my body wanted nothing more than to rest. Habitually I have been running for quite some time. I knew in my heart that my body wasn’t up for a run that night. I decided to still go – and keep up the regimen. The run began well, I began strong. As I approached the half way mark things began to get very, very hard. An afternoon spent moving had definitely taken its toll. I pushed on. The final 3rd of the run felt nearly impossible. Each and every step I took hurt. My lungs burned, I felt faint. I wanted to quit, it was brutal.
I pushed on…
“This is what you want to do...” became my mantra for the final third of the run. I finished the run at my full capacity and speed. I could have finished it with a whimper – I wanted to finish it with a roar. And I did.
My body being tired and run down from the days activities was an obstacle that I could have let defeat me. But I overcame it; I chose to continue beyond it, to beat it.
On a very small scale – that night I wanted to be great. I wanted to see my goal through to the end.
I want you to see your goals for the year through to the end.
I don’t want you to stand in the way of your own success. When I was on the path running with every ounce of heart and soul I had – I nearly ended it. Because for a single brief moment I doubted that I had what I needed in order to succeed. I realized that I possessed all I needed. I found a spark inside myself that night – and that same spark will carry me through to the end of the year. That same spark will help me to realize my goals.
I encourage you, the reader, to find that same spark within yourself – and finish your year with a roar. Take these last 100 days – own your destiny, write your fate, attain your dream for the year 2011.
