It’s November 13th, 2011 as I write this week’s blog post. A post in which I have chosen to reflect on my love affair with the number 13, and how it relates to (and has affected) my favourite CFL team the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
This past year has been tumultuous and storied for the Riders. In the 2010 season I predicted the unfortunate end to the season for the green and white with a shocking loss against Montreal for the 2nd time. In January of 2011 I also made several predictions for the Riders live on the air with Big Dog 92.7’s Brad Grass and Heather Prozzak. In these predictions I stated that 2011 would be a year of growth and rebirth for the team, seeing them out of the playoffs earlier than they have been in recent history. I also foretold Gene Makowsky winning his seat in the 2011 provincial election and making 2011 his final year of professional football. My predictions for the 2011 Saskatchewan Roughriders have come true; this was indeed an awful season filled with loss, disappointment, and regret. The single brightest spot of the season was nostalgic favourite Ken Miller’s return to the team as head coach, and Andy Fantuz donning a green and white jersey once again.
